Kelly Clarkson and the Bush sisters have some things in common.

On Monday, fraternal twins Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush, 41, appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and got candid about their ever-changing bodies.

The conversation started with the women discussing the American Idol winner’s first Halloween in New York as a mother since her daytime television show made the move from Universal City Studios in Los Angeles to 30 Rockefeller Plaza. As they talked about past costumes, throwback photos appeared on the large display screen behind them — one in particular caused the conversation to switch gears.

Clarkson, 41, showed a photo of the twins as children, wearing matching blue dresses.

Turning to look at the picture, Bush Hager blurted, "We were chubby." The “Since U Been Gone” hitmaker immediately denied the statement, adding, "You were not." Following the rebuttal, the twins clarified that they weren’t chubby in that specific photo, but they were at other points in their lives.

“I don’t think you know what chubby is,” Clarkson said.

The Today with Hoda & Jenna co-host asked her sister if she was chubby and Bush replied, “No.” The Grammy winner interjected, saying, “You can’t ask somebody that! She’s not gonna be like, ‘You were a chub club.' ”

Still, Bush said “there was a stage” when her sibling was a bit overweight. Clarkson confessed that she’s “had many stages” of being heavier than she would have preferred.

"I love losing weight, but here's the thing," Clarkson said as the audience applauded. "Jeans are so hard when you have a butt and a smaller waist."

The vocalist — who has shed pounds over the years — has been transparent about her weight loss journey throughout her career. “Even on American Idol I was really thin, but I was bigger than the other girls on the show, so people would say things to me,” she told PEOPLE in November 2017. “But luckily I am super confident, so I’ve never had a problem with shutting people down and saying, ‘Yeah, you know, that’s just what I’m rocking. It’s fine.’ ”

She’d previously admitted that she was bulimic as a teen because at the time she thought being smaller would help her get better roles in her school musicals. During a December 2020 visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Clarkson reflected on how she would still get scrutinized about her weight after her first child was born.

The “Behind These Hazel Eyes” singer shares daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington "Remy" Alexander, 7, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. “I love how people think that’s new — like, ‘Welcome to the past 13 years,’ ” she told the TV host regarding the negativity she received.

She also explained that her weight can sometimes mirror a “yo-yo.”

“So sometimes I’m more fit and I get into kickboxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don’t, and I’m like … I’d rather have wine.”
